Sulphur dioxide(SO2) and Nitrogen dioxide(NO2) recats with rain water(H20) to form sulphuric acid(H2SO4) and nitric acid(HNO3) which comes down as rain (acid rain).
So2 + H2o = H2SO3
3 NO2 + H2O → 2 HNO3 + NO

Answer:-
gases like SO2 and NO2 reach the atmosphere in larger amounts. These gases dissolve in rainwater and reach the soil as acids. This is known as ‘acid rain’.
What are the environmental problems caused
by acid rain?
- Plants lose their ability to produce carbohydrates through photosynthesis as their leaves are de- strayed.
- Severe acid rain destroys the greenery of a region.
- The acidic nature of water causes the death and destruction of fish and corals.
