Subsistence crisis is a situation in which the basics need of the people are in danger.

During French revolution the following situations led to subsistence crisis-:

Population increased from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789 so the demand of food increased which led to increase of the price o food.

When drought or flood came the grains that were sowed by the farmers in the field got destroyed which further led to subsistence crisis.

The workers worked for the owners and their wages were set by their owners which did not kept pace with the increasing price thus the financial gap between rich and poor widened.

These situations led to subsistence crisis.
