In Sri Lanka, numerous  political parties demanded separate Tamil states in north and south Sri Lanka. There was extensive conflict between the two states which gradually turned into a civil war. Thousands lost their lives due to this conflict.

The three demands of the Sri Lankan Tamils, if accepted and met with, can settle the ethnic conflict are :-
