The government of India has launched a major road development project linking Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi by a six- lane super highway.
The North-South Corridor:
In the north it links Srinagar of Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
The East-West Corridor:
It connects Silchar of Assam in the east to Porbandar of Gujarat in the west.
Connecting the four major metropolitan cities of the country in four directions – Delhi (North), Chennai (South), Kolkata (East) and Mumbai (West) – thereby forming a quadrilateral, and hence the name Golden Quadrilateral.
