The northern plain has been formed by three major river system - the Indus , the Ganga and the Brahmaputra along with their tributaries.
The northern plain is formed of alluvial soil and is very fertile. It has a rich soil cover combined with adequate water supply and favourable climate which help in agriculture. It is densely populated physiographic division.
