The trophy was named after Jules Rimet, the third FIFA President who began the first World Cup tournament in 1930. Designed by Abel Lafleur, the trophy was made of gold-plated sterling silver on a white/yellow marble base.
It was stolen in 1966 and later recovered. However, it was again stolen in 1983 and since then, it has never been recuperated.
