It was the time of 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico city where the winners of a  200-meter running event was organised. In this event Tommie Smith(1st place), Peter Norman(2nd place), John Carlos(3rd place) won and secured these places.

When the medal ceremony started the two African-American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their hand in which they were wearing a black glove while the US national anthem was played.

But, later Tommie Smith that this act was not to show the the "Black Power" but, it was a "human rights" salute and at that time all three were wearing human-rights badges too.
