To better understand the ideological conflict of the Cold War it is first important to understand the main principles of capitalism, communism, democracy and dictatorship. During the Cold War, the United States was based upon capitalism and democracy while the Soviet Union was based upon communism and dictatorship.
the main conflict of the Cold War was the West's efforts to prevent Soviet attempts to spread communist ideology and communist political/economic system allOver the world - all other ColdWar conflicts were “derivatives” of that MAIN ONE…
Ideology of Communist/ Socialism and that of Democracy/ Republic. Russia wanted as much land and people under their control as possible so kept expanding westward when possible, ie: Czech etc. However you could argue the west wanted to stabilize the existing countries and continue economic prosperity through trade. There was not a attempt to conquer the east militarily just hopes of showing them a more prosperous way with open society.
