Assam, Nagaland and Jammu & Kashmir were initially included in special category states in India in 1969. Since then, 8 more states have been given special status. These are Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand
