Which two points on the number line are opposites? A number line going from negative 2 to positive 2 in increments of 1. There are 3 equal spaces between each number. Point A is 1 mark to the right of negative 2. Point B is 1 mark to the right of negative 1. Point C is 1 mark to the right of 0. Point D is 2 marks to the right of 1.

There are 3 equal spaces between each number.

Point A is 1 mark to the right of negative 2.

Point B is 1 mark to the right of negative 1.

Point C is 1 mark to the right of 0.

Point D is 2 marks to the right of 1.

To Find : Which two points on the number line are opposites

Solution:

There are 3 equal spaces between each number.  

Hence 1 Space = 1/3

Point A is 1 mark to the right of -2  =  - 2 + 1/3  = - 5/3

Point B is 1 mark to the right of -1  =  - 1  1/3  = - 2/3

Point C is 1 mark to the right of 0 = 0 + 1/3  = 1/3

Point D is 2 marks to the right of 1 = 1 + 2/3  = 5/3

two points on the number line are opposites if Their absolute values are same

Point A and Point D have absolute value = 5/3

Hence points A & D on the number line are opposites
