Answer:

Sardar patel sensed the urgent and imperative need of the integration of princely states. He followed an iron handed policy. He made it clear that he did not recognize the right of any state to remain independent and in isolation, within India.

Answer:

Sardar Vallabhai Patel adopted the Chanakya Neeti policies:

Saam (Equity): Peaceful negotiations. This worked in most places. It was simple and the best thing to try first. Most of the kingdoms were very small and didn't require anything more than a simple talk to win them over. Examples can be any of the interior provinces with majority Hindus.

Daam (Price): some rulers were more powerful and hence simple talk couldn't win them over. So they were won over by offering them to retain titles, personal property, and position in congress. An example can be of Mysore King who was given position in congress and allowing him to continue the rituals of Dasara. This worked with most kings who didn't want to let go of their titles as kings more than losing anything else. Also, a privy purse ensured their income is decent without doing any work as a king.

Dand (Punishment): the Best example is of course of Hyderabad's Nizam. When the last two methods failed with Hyderabad's Nizam for a year, it was time for Dand. Put 4 task forces in a state where people wanted to join the Indian union for 5 days and you will overthrow the Nizam with less than 40 people dead on the Indian army side. You threaten the king with your power by surrounding him and cutting him off from the rest of the world. He will have no option but to surrender if he is not strong enough.

Bhed (Distinction): When you know your threat cannot work because the opponent is strong then you go for Bhed. For Ex. Hanwant Singh, a Rajput king who didn't like Congress and wanted to go with Pakistan. But Patel pointed out that such a decision can cause communal violence in a state with a majority of Hindus. You point at the flaws or problems with your enemies to show that you are better than your enemies for the person who has to decide. Here the rift between Jodhpur and Pakistan was used to our advantage.
