If they had been a reticent men it would have been almost or different, but few of them were talkers as well as few of them even boasters. They like to discuss their experiences right up to the time of the battle and then suddenly they won't talk or stop talking anymore.
This is what considered a heroic spirit in in them. It was thought that they had seen or done was so horrible that they didn't want to bring it back to haunt them or their listeners. But many of these men had no such consideration in any other field.
