It is a tropical crop and is grown extensively in Peninsular India. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu together produce more than half the groundnuts in India whereas Gujarat is the leading producer. The other groundnuts producing states are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab
