Article 18 of Indian Constitution and Abolition of Titles. Article 18(1): No title, not being a military or academic distinction, shall be conferred by the State. Article 18 (2): No citizen of India shall accept any title from any foreign State

This Article Contains four clauses in general.
Clause (1 )- Prohibits the conferment of titles. Military and academic distinctions are exempted from the prohibition.
Clause (2)- Prohibits a citizen of India from accepting any title from a foreign state.
Clause(3)- Provides that a non citizen who holds any office of profit or trust under the state shall not accept without the consent of the president, any title from any foreign state.
Clause(4)- Provides that no person- citizen or non citizen - holding any office of profit or trust under the state, shall,  without the consent of the president, accept any present or emoluments or office of any kind from or under any foreign state.

The battle against the titles conferred by the British monarch started with the passing of the United States Constitution in 1787 which prohibited all titles of nobility in the United States.

Article 9, S.9 of the US Constitution also have the corresponding provision which reads as :

" NO TITLE OF NOBILITY SHALL BE GRANTED BY THE UNITED STATES; AND NO PERSON HOLDING ANY OFFICE OF PROFIT OR TRUST UNDER THEM SHALL, WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE CONGRESS, ACCEPT ANY PRESENT, EMOLUMENT, OFFICE OR TITLE OF ANY KIND OF WHATEVER FROM ANY KING, PRINCE OR FOREIGN STATE."
