CaO is an ionic bond.

Definition: Two-element compounds are usually ionic when one element is a metal and the other is a non-metal.

From: Definition of Ionic Compounds

It is made up of one metal ion/cation(Ca^2+) and an non-metal ion/anion(O^2-).

the calcium oxide contain the ionic bond .when metal react with non-metal then the ionic compound is formed and between them ionic bond is formed .here calcium is metal and oxygen is non-metal thus the ionic bond is formed between them
