Schottky defect is known to be a point defect in solids that is highly prevalent in ionic compounds as well as highly coordinated compounds.
These are found mainly in solids where there is not much difference between the sizes of cations and anions present in the crystal lattice.
This defect arises when two ions that are oppositely charged leave their respective latice sites generating vacant positions.
An example of such defect is found in Sodium Chloride( NaCl), Potassium Chloride( KCl) ,etc.
