Answer:

Pitcher plant has dual mode of nutrition - It has chlorophyll so it performs photosynthesis using carbon dioxide, water and sunlight and prepare carbohydrates.

But pitcher plant grows in swampy areas in bogs where there is a deficiency of nitrogen. So to meet the nitrogen deficiency it undergoes saprophytic mode of nutrition. The pitcher plant has a slippery lid and a deep cavity-the pitfall cavity. It attracts flies and insects using the anthocyanin pigment in it's cavity. The cavity being slippery and grooved doesn't allow the insects to jump out. In the cavity through a method of digestion the insects are converted into ammonia, phosphates and urea and are absorbed by the plant.
