The Dirang Formation comprises quartzite, kyanite ± staurolite + garnet ± biotite schist, crystalline limestone and carbon phyllite. Basic and ultrabasic rocks intrude these lithounits. The Bomdila Gneiss, which forms a part of the Lesser Himalayan Sequence, is a large body of granite orthogneiss.
