The type of selection which leads to increased phenotypic and genetic variation is called “Disruptive Selection”.

Disruptive Selection also known as diversifying selection in which alleles with extreme traits reproduce more and alleles with intermediate traits which drive a population completely different and isolated from the parental population. Hence  disruptive selection can produce a complete divided population.
