There are three types of soil:Sandy ,Clayey and Loamy.
Hihest water capacity is in clayey because the higer percentage of small clay particles means that the pore spaces in the soil are small. Thus drainage reduces and more water can be held in the soil .Its difficult to work in this soil.
The best type for farming is loamy since it has a good balance of clay, sand and silt.
