Carbon forms strong bond because of its small size, this enables the nucleus to hold onto the shared pares of electrons very strongly. Bonds formed by elements having larger atoms are much weaker and less stable.

First part. Carbon has electronic configuration of 1s22s22p2 has a property of self linking to each other and hence shows property of catenation so carbon generally form covalent compounds.

Second part. compounds formed by carbon are highly stable because it forms covalent bonds . the reason is the mall size of carbon atoms,due to which their nuclei hold shared parts of electrons between atoms strongly.
