In India, two types of crops are grown. Namely "Rabi" and "kharif" crops. Rabi crops are sown in winter where as Kharif crops are sown with the onset of monsoon in different parts of the country and are harvested in September-October months. Some Rabi crops are wheat, barley, peas, gram and mustard. Kharif crops include paddy, maize, jowar, bajra, red, black and green gram, urad, cotton, jute, groundnut and soyabean. In between these two seasons, there is a short season, called the Zaid season. Some of its crops are watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, vegetables and fodder crops.
