Both SO2 and SO3 are acidic oxides and they react with bases in aqueous solutions to form the salts of sulfurous acid and sulfuric acid as these gases dissolve in aqueous solutions to form sulfurous acid and sulfuric acid. Thus SO2 and SO3 will form Na2SO3 and Na2SO4 with NaOH in aqueous solution.
