Cotton, sandy loam is actually clay and silt that has little sand.

Loamy sand has some silt and clay.

Cotton grows well in soil that has a grey colour on top and yellow clay beneath.

While cotton likes sandy soils where these are subject to erosion by rains.

Farmers in Alabama have told this by planting rye as cover crop.

Mature rye has roots that hold the sandy soil intact and after maturity farmers spread the rye month before harvesting cotton.
