Explanation:

a. Talc is a rock known as steatite or soapstone, which is composed of varying proportions of the mineral talc, often combined with other minerals such as chlorite and carbonate. Talc is an industrial raw material in powder form, which is used in a wide range of applications.

b. Different places have variations in the colour of the soil because age is a factor. The older soil fades its colour. Another reason is sediment composition. Different components cause different colours to be there for the soil.

c. Plate tectonics is a scientific theory describing the large-scale motion of the plates making up the Earth's lithosphere since tectonic processes began on Earth between 3.3 and 3.5 billion years ago. The model builds on the concept of continental drift, an idea developed during the first decades of the 20th century.

d. CLIMATE :- The climate of Eastern Himalaya is characterized by cool summer and chilly winter. The average annual temperature is 20°C and average annual rainfall is 500mm. (f) TYPE OF VEGETATION :- Consisting of a thick forest cover, Alpine, subalpine and broad leaf forests are found in the Eastern Himalayas.

e.

  • Himadri ( the greater himalayas )
  • Himachal ( the lower himalayas )
  • Shiwalik ( the outer himalayas )

f. Geologically, the Sivalik Hills belong to the Tertiary deposits of the outer Himalayas. They are chiefly composed of sandstone and conglomerate rock formations, which are the solidified detritus of the Himalayas to their north; they are poorly consolidated.

g. Though only 10 miles (16 km) wide in places, the range has an average elevation of 3,000 to 4,000 feet (900 to 1,200 metres).

h.

  • Himadri ( the greater himalayas )
  • Himachal ( the lower himalayas )
  • Shiwalik ( the outer himalayas )

i. The longitudinal valley lying between lesser Himalayas and Shiwaliks are known as Duns. Dehra Dun, Kotii Dun and Patii Dun are some of the well-known Duns.
