While it was once the case a very, very long time ago, IP addresses have not been assigned by any volunteer organization for quite some time. The internal IP address of a computer on a LAN is assigned by its router via the protocol known as DHCP. External IP addresses (the ones that actually access the internet) are assigned by your internet service provider, which is a for-profit company in most cases.

The volunteer organization did not assign the IP address in the year’s age.

But now the internet service provider will give the external IP address to your system.

The IP address means the address of the computer on the LAN which is provided by its router via the protocol called as DHCP.
