Nawab of Hyderabad was the first territory connected by Subsidiary Alliance.
SUBSIDIARY ALLIANCE:
• Subsidiary Alliance was introduced by Lord Wellesely the then Governor-General of India.
• According to this Subsidiary Alliance, East India company merges with princely states and take-up their sovereignty.
• In simple words, the princely state which enters into the alliance will allow the army of Britain.
• For the maintenance of the army, the rulers should pay revenue to the British.
• British protect these princely states from other forces.
• Through this policy, many princely states were annexed by East India Company.
• Other kingdoms which entered into a Subsidiary Alliances were Tanjore, Awadh etc.
