The minimum thickness is 1/4 of the wavelength; actually a little less if the light is reflected obliquely. To be very precise, the wavelength is corrected (lengthened) to correct for the speed of light being slower in the liquid.

A color is emphasized by a thin film if the light reflected by the first surface is in phase with the light reflected by the second surface.
