On January 31, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi sent a letter to Viceroy Irwin. In which he mentioned his demands. These demands were related to the interests of all sections of the society. Including the demands of businessmen to farmers.

The two main demands were are as under.

  1. Decrease in land revenue
  2. Abolition of salt tax.

Salt was such a thing that the rich or the poor were eaten alike by everyone, and for everyone's essential thing. Gandhi was strongly against tax on salt. They did not want the government to establish their monopoly on the production of salt. He exposed this suppressive step of the British Government to the public.

Answer:

Two types of demands mentioned by Gandhiji in his letter to Viceroy Irwin on 31 January 1930 – First a letter aiming for general interest and secondly,  a demand made to varied class of people belonging to farmers and industrialists. To abolish salt tax was most stirring as this was one commodity being used by the rich as we as the poor.  But the production was monopolised by the British and Gandhiji demanded to remove this monopoly.
