QUESTION ---- Which will have greater inertia amongst three balls, A, B and C filled with same volume of mercury, water and air respectively? Give reason to support your answer.

ANSWER
_______________________________

Inertia is an inherent property of a substance because of which it is unable to change its state of continuous motion or rest even when some external force is applied to it.

• Inertia is directly proportional to Mass.

________________________________

Since all the Balls are filled with same volume of Mercury, Water and Air,

Their Mass will be dependent on Density.

Mass is directly proportional to Density if the volume is fixed.

________________________________

Among :
Mercury (13.6 g/cm^3)
Water (1 g/cm^3)
Air (1.4 × 10^(-3))

Mercury has the highest density hence Ball A will be heavier than other two balls.

_______________________________

• Ball A ( filled with mercury ) will have greater inertia than the other two balls.

• Ball B will have less inertia.

• Ball C will have least inertia
