North west India receives monsoon rainfall from July to September through the monsoon winds from Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal.
During winter, low pressure areas forming over Mediterranean sea moves east and precipitates over Pakistan and North west India. Such low pressure areas are called as Western disturbances. These precipitates rain to the plains and snow to the western Himalayas.
