WHICH REQUIRES GREATER FORCE

CASE 1

Given:-

  • Mass, m = 2 kg
  • Acceleration, a = 5m/s²

We know,

Force = Mass × Acceleration

⇒ Force = 2 × 5

⇒ Force = 10 N ...(1)

CASE 2

Given:-

  • Mass, m = 4 kg
  • Acceleration, a = 2 m/s²

Similarly,

Force = Mass × Acceleration

⇒ Force = 4 × 2

⇒ Force = 8 N ...(2)

From (1) and (2),

It is clear that accelerating a 2 kg mass at 5 m/ would require greater force than the other one.

Explanation:

Force F=ma

(1) : F

1

=m

1

a

1

=2×5=10 N

(2) : F

2

=m

2

a

2

=4×2=8 N

So, 2 kg will require greater force.
