The GDP serieswith base year 2004-05 was launched in 2010, while the series with base year 1999-2000 was launched in 2006. Going by the past, the base year for the new series may have been2009-10 instead of 2011-12. However, 2009-10 was an atypical andmay not be an ideal choice forthe ‘base year’.The most obvious reason being, that the Indian GDP slipped in 2008-09 after four years of 8% plus growth. The growth revived to 8% plus levels in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
