Rally On Gender Discrimination
A rally on gender discrimination was organized by Women Empowerment Cell on March 8, 2017 in Ludhiana to make people aware of the issues related to the social evil. The rally started from Women’s Government College and culminated at Rose Garden. Famous personalities such as Smriti Irani, the Cabinet Minster, Kiran Kher, the famous actress and M.P., Kiran Bedi, the renowned activists for women empowerment, thousands of school children, and many other famous personalities took part in the rally. School children from various schools carried banners and placards bearing anti-gender discrimination slogans.
In spite of 70 years of Independence and social reforms, the problem of gender-discrimination is quite rampant in India. Gender inequality in some states is adversely affecting women of all ages due to which they are not able to live and enjoy their life optimally. Female foeticide, low rate of enrolment of girls in schools and colleges, poor proportion of working women in private and Government run departments, violence against women statistics, etc. tell a sorry state of women in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Smriti Irani, the Cabinet Minster appealed to people to give equality to women in all spheres of life. She also made the people aware of the Government’s initiatives and programmes launched to promote women equality. She reiterated the Government’s commitment to promote women empowerment in all walks of life. The rally succeeded in evoking huge response from the local people.
