While catching a cricket ball, the cricket ball has high velocity. If the cricketer catches it direct without pulling its hand back,he will be injured. So in order to slow down the velocity of the ball ,the time should be large. That's why a cricketer pulls his hand back in order to increase time and to make the velocity of the ball small so that he should not get injured.
