Gypsum drywall is what most modern walls are built with. The boards are made of dried gypsum plaster sandwiched between two sheets of heavy paper creating a board that is easier to install than traditional plaster applied with a trowel. When a gypsum drywall panel is manufactured, it may very well be made of 50% air! This allows it to be much lighter than traditionally applied plaster and aids in installation. It also may have an asphalt or wax emulsion added to the gypsum drywall board to repel moisture.
So we prefer gypsum most.

Gypsum board is the generic name for a family of panel products that consist of a noncombustible core, composed primarily of gypsum, and a paper surfacing on the face, back and long edges.

Gypsum board is often called drywall, wallboard, or plasterboard. It differs from other panel-type building products, such as plywood, hardboard, and fiberboard, because of its noncombustible core and paper facers.

Advantages of Gypsum Board Construction

Gypsum board walls and ceilings have a number of outstanding advantages:

Ease of installation

Fire resistance

Sound isolation

Durability

Economy

Versatility

GFRG is the short-form for Glass fibre reinforced gypsum panels an Australian technology used since 1990’s but only as walls. Professors from IIT Madras made research and found out this technology can be used for all structural elements such as walls, floors and roofs in a building. They have built a 2 storey model house in IIT campus 2013 which was completed in 30 days for 6.5 lakhs/flat.

What is GFRG and how is it better than conventional building?

GFRG stands for Glass fiber reinforced gypsum. These panels are manufactured using phosphogypsum which is a waste material from fertilizer industry and glass fiber used as a reinforcement.
