SPEED= 1.67 m/s.

First of all You have to solve the distance the man has covered in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The total distance is 24Km. However, he hasn't covered the total distance. But you know the distance covered is 5/7 of the remaining distance.

Now, the remaining distance is 24Km - distance covered. So let's say X is the remaining distance:

5/7 X + X = 24 (Distance covered which is 5/7 of the remaining + remaining distance = 24Km)

=> 12/7 X = 24 => X = 14Km this is the remaining distance, so he has covered 10Km

If he covered 10Km in 1 hour and 40 minutes, we can solve the problem. Now, remember the answer should be in meters per second. Therefore you have to make a conversion. 1 Km = 1000 meters, and 1 hour is 60 minutes and 1 minute is 60 sec.

So, speed is D/T distance / time.

Distance = 10Km time is 1 hour 40 minutes

Distance in meters is 10 x 1000 = 10,000 meters

time is sec is 100 minutes (1 hour + 40 minutes) x 60 = 6000 sec

So, speed = 10,000 / 6000 = 1.67 Meters/Sec
