While determining the density of a solid sphere a student noted now the following readings.
a) mass of sphere 30 gram.
b) reading of water level in the measuring cylinder without sphere is 63 ml
c) reading of the water level in the measuring cylinder with sphere is 72 ml.

Hey there !

Mass = 81 grams = 0.008 kg

Initial reading = 54 ml

Final reading = 63 ml

Volume of sphere = Amount of water displaced by it

Amount of water displaced by it  =

Final reading - Initial reading

 = 63 - 54

 = 9ml

Volume = 9 ml = 9 cm³          [ 1 ml = 1 cm³]

Density = Mass  / Volume

 = 81/9

 = 9 g/cm³

= 9000 kg/m³                            [1g/cm³ = 1000 kg/m³]

Hence option (D) is correct !!

Hope this helps you !
