while diluting an acid why is it advised that the acid should be added to water and not water to the acid.

becoz a lot of heat is evolved while diluting..
it could be dangerous.

It is advised to do so because of the nature of the various substances which are present on earth.If water had been added in the acid then there might me a minor explosion which can cause harm to anyone so while diluting any acid we should always do what's advised.
