The complete question is as follows,
While diluting an acid, why is it recommended that the acid is poured to water, and not the water is poured to acid?
Answer:
We should know that, the the reaction of acid with water is highly exothermic. In, case, water is added to acid. The exothermic reaction will be harmful for the person diluting the acid. Due to the exothermic reaction, the acid may spurt out and fall on the skin of the person doing the dilution of the acid.
Hence, it is recommended that while diluting an acid, one should pour acid to water slowly as per requirement. In this case, the reaction is not much exothermic and hence not harmful.
