when we add water into acids a huge amount of heat is given out i,e it is exothermic this heat can blast the beaker.
when acid is added in water a less amount of water is given out.

The reason why we add acid to water and not the other way round is because if we add water to acid, in strong acids like H2SO4 and HCl, there can be an exothermic reaction.
There can be a lot of heat produced as a result of which the reaction could be violent.
IF we add acid to water none of these mishaps will happen.
