while diluting an acid,why is it recommended tht the acid should be added to water and not water to the acid​

If you add water to acid it forms an extremely concentrated solution of acid initially. So much heat is released that the solution may boil very violently, splashing concentrated acid out of the container and all this because the reaction is exothermic. ... So it is always safer to add acid to water, and not water to acid.

because mixing of water and acid is an exothermic reaction...and if water is added into acid the energy released can cause explosion in the container

but if acid is added into water then water present in the container absorb extra energy released during mixing due to its high heat capacity...so it is safe to add acid into water
