The outermost layer of any endosperm is called an ‘Aleurone Layer’. This layer separates the different layers of the endosperm.
Its primary function, however, is to provide nourishment to the embryo. It secretes a few enzymes which help during seed germination.
The Aleurone Layer is a protein-rich coat on the outermost part of an endosperm.
Aleurone, itself is a protein found in protein granules of germinating seeds. Therefore, the layer is called the Aleurone layer as it contains this protein.
