While doing an experiment a student observed that the blue colour of the aqueous copper sulphate solution has changed on adding iron fillings.State the color change of copper sulphate and name the reaction?

It is becoz iron is more reactive than copper so iron displaces the copper and forms iron sulphate solution..

And the reaction is known as displacement reaction.

Blue colour of the copper sulphate changes into brown. Because when iron fillings are added to the copper sulphates solution, and as iron is more reactive than copper iron displaces copper from it's salt solution becoming iron sulphate.

Fe +CuSo4 = FeSo4 + Cu

This is a displacement reaction as a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from it's salt solution.
