While electroplating stainless steel with copper, why do copper ions migrate to the cathode and not the anode since they are anions? What happens to SO4?

Answer:
The anode (positive electrode ) is made from impure copper and the cathode (negative electrode) is made from pure copper. During electrolysis, the anode loses mass as copper dissolves, and the cathode gains mass as copper is deposited. A half-equation shows what happens at one of the electrodes during electrolysis. As the electrolysis happens, the blue colour of the solution fades. The copper ions from the solution migrate to the cathode. The cathode becomes coated with copper. Bubbles can be seen at the anode.
