an equilibrium state is achieved when the forward reaction rate equals the reverse reaction rate

let take an example

forward rate = kf[N2O4]

reverse rate = kr[NO2]2

At equilibrium, the forward rate equals the reverse rate:

                                   therefore;

kf[N2O4] = kr[NO2]2

so,

kf / kr = [NO2]2 / [N2O4]
