While measuring the length of a cylinder by vernier callipers, the main scale reading
is found to be 4.5 cm and 5th division on vernier is found coincide with a division on
the main scale. If least count and zero error are 0.01 cm and - 0.02 cm respectively
what is the length of the cylinder ?

Explanation:

Observed reading = MSR+n×LC

= 4.5 + 5× .01

= 4.55 cm

Zero Correction = - (Zero Error)

Zero Correction = 0.02cm

Actual reading = Observed reading

+Zero Correction

Actual reading = 4.55+ 0.02

= 4.57 cm
