When measuring the length of the pencil, it is not a must that we start from the zero mark.

This question shows that we can even use a broken ruler to measure the length of object.

To get the length of the object, we subtract the initial reading from the final reading.

The length of the pencil = 12.1 - 2.0

                                      = 10.1 cm

∴The pencil measures 10.1 cm
