Answer:
Spring break 2012.
I had to literally sign a contract with my parents to let me go, stating obvious rules I [wasn’t supposed to] break - don’t take drinks from strangers, no boys in your room, always have one of your friends with you, etc.
We spent a few days in Port Aransas, as young Texan spring breakers are want to do. Almost all of the “cool kids” from my grade are there, watched one of them get arrested while he had alcohol poisoning, cool. Drank Jagermeister for the first time (we were just taking pulls from the bottle and someone dropped the cap in the sand and every drink from there on out was crunchy). Lost our Asian friend and asked the cops to keep a look out for her (she was in our hotel room) but the cops offered to let us stay and watch them arrest drunk people which we declined, being under the influence ourselves.
Met a cute guy at a local hotel party, we started talking. Told me where he was from, I said where I was from, and he said, “Oh no way! My uncle owns [my at-the-time current place of employment].” Oh, yikes, cool, let’s keep drinking! The night continues, etc. (Side note - banging on the beach isn’t cool and sand gets everywhere and it’s scratchy in all the wrong places so just do not do it.)
Two years pass. I just happened to stop by that place of employment and was talking to my old bosses and coworkers and I see this guy again. I instantly knew who he was, though I don’t remember his name or anything about him - mostly just recognized the teeth (kinda my thing), and those nice lips that were on certain places on my body…. yikes. I could tell he was trying to remember who I was, but we were in front of almost the whole staff and thankfully his uncle, my boss, said, “Oh Rachel, this is my nephew [whatever].”
“Oh hello! It’s so nice to meet you!”
