While performing "Identification of blood group" experiment, Satheesh and Seetharam
found that agglutination does not occur in anti - RhD serum after adding blood sample. This
denotes:
11
A) Rh factor is negative
B) Rh factor is positive
C) Rh factor is neither positive nor negative

ANSWER :

Option A) Rh factor is negative

Points to know :

Identification of blood group -

  • There are antigen { A, B and D} present in surface of RBC in blood
  • There are antibodies { anti-A , anti-B and anti-D } present in serum.

In blood group typing, we mix formed antibodies to blood of human. Then we see agglutination ( that is clumping )

Now , the antibodies with which blood is agglutinated , corresponds to the blood group of individual.

  1. If agglutination occurs with anti-A , then blood group is A
  2. If agglutination occurs with anti-B, then blood group is B
  3. If agglutination occurs with both anti-A and anti-B blood group is AB
  4. If agglutination doesn't occur with any , that is anti-A and anti-B, then blood group is O

Now, depending on agglutination with anti-D

  • If agglutination occurs - Rh+
  • If agglutination doesn't occur - Rh-
